I remember that song very well and enjoyed a lot of Rupert's other work. I may get that CD you mentioned as well.
Rupert Homes gets around. He created Remember WENN for AMC and he's written a number of plays, including Say Goodnight, Gracie. According to Wikipedia he's currently working on a musical version of The First Wives Club. That should be a success!
He's also responsible for the infamous "Timothy" (1971).
I was talked into playing the accordion as a child but, of course, grew bored with it after a few years and no longer know how to do so. But, I distinctly remember asking my accordion teacher to help me learn "Him" and other pop songs of the day! I wish I would have moved on to regular keyboards from the accordion, but alas, I did not...

One of the better songs of that year and it was a nice arrangement, too. Of course, Holmes had a huge hit with "Escape - The Pina Colada Song", but "Him" has a nice air to it. It got lots of airtime in my junior high years.
Holmes did a cool song which was called "Who What When Where Why" on his first album; the song was covered by Dionne Warwick in 1979 but it wasn't as good as Holmes' original
