I was listening to paul van dyke thinking about the current DRM status, the RIAA, and other issues in the music industry. I honestly feel DRM and the RIAA do nothing but harm and damage the music industry.
I thought about this scenario for a moment.
It's the 21st centrury, everything is going digital, and i thought of 1TB of AAC files. The 1 TB of AAC music is all legit, ripped from my own CD's. It has been acumulated over 10 years and i currently only have the most recent CD's bought, in my possession. The rest of them i've either tossed because i hate clutter or been given away.
Then for some odd reason the RIAA find's my music size weird and some how finds out about my size. They take me to court and they ask me " where did you accumulate all your music from? ". I tell them, i've burned them from my own collection. "sir, where are the cd's or your proof that you've purchased this music?" catch 22.
What do you do in that kind of scenario?
I would love to buy music and not continually listen to samples, but none of the online sellers offer backup options. In other words, i lose my computer. The hard drive crashes, all the music is gone. Am I forced to re-buy the music i've already spent money on? I can't download it because its "illegal" to the RIAA.
Thoughts? ideas?
