I like some Wilco.
I like old school guys like Gram Parsons, and some Steve Earle goes down well too.
I love Bluegrass. One of my all-time favorite albums (still have it on vinyl) is Will the Circle Be Unbroken. It contains the work of some fine artists.
Allison Kraus and Union Station is another good band. They kinda hit both genres you mentioned. If you saw "O Brother, Where Art Thou", they did "Man of Constant Sorrow". My personal favorite album of their's is "New Favorite".
A good source to hear/see bluegrass and other roots music is on PBS, if your local station shows the Kentucky Educational Television program Jubilee. I've bought quite a few records after watching that show!
A few years ago, my wife and I would hit a few festivals in the Northeast through the Summer. Back then Old Crow Medicine Show could be found on the circuit, they evolved since then and this past year I noticed that they play mid size theater type venues in downtown Boston.
Up to last year we had a class B camper van that we would spend
the summer months trucking around the Northeast and into the
Maritimes, visiting family and going to BG festivals.
Last year we rented a stationary trailer at Strawberry Park BG Festival in Preston CT. and had a ball. If you want to get excited about BG check out their lineup. For me it's a must go to fest.
