There were worse bands, thats for sure. lol Stryper... good ol Stryper. Good classic metal vocals, some heavy riffs, some terrible ballads. Then there was the nauseating black n' yellow leather outfits they wore. lol I had their CD "To Hell With The Devil". Not too terrible to be honest, but not Metallica either.
I dont remember which member of Stryper it was, but he left a VERY successful band [at that time] called HEAD EAST to start Stryper. I guess God told him to?
Think of the Osmonds playing heavy metal . In fairness they were Christians and Christian Metal just didn't exist so they had to kind of walk a fine line between jamming to Metal and going to Church
OMG - I saw this title on the main forum page and HAD to respond. I not only REMEMBER Stryper, but actually went to SEE them in concert!
L'Amour's in Brooklyn, circa 1986. Me of the heavy eye makeup, huge earrings, shoulder pads, skinny jeans and "teased to Jesus" hair (appropriate looking back, huh? ). I didn't like them, didn't like metal, but went because my guy friends were going.
We almost got trampled! It was SO crowded and hot. My one friend and I, once we were able to escape, sat in her car, watched Ben Casey on a portable TV and drank Peppermint Schnapps straight from the bottle. Good times, good times.
Thanks for the memory rush!
