Odd question. I suppose the OP is limiting this to "mainstream" radio. In Pittsburgh I can dial in an NPR station with a playlist that smokes most everything posted so far. And I went to college in the 70s. Until the last decade, the mid-70s was probably the worst time for music I can recall.
I was a waitress in a truckstop, trying to save money to go back to finish my BA. I started a campaign to make over the jukebox, getting as many "good" songs on there as I could. The guy that changed records liked me and listened to my suggestions though he balked at Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein"~understandably. One thing that was so great was that, when he took records out, he gave me first pick! So, I ended up with the 45s of these songs and still have them after many decades. Yes, I finally got that BA and the first part of a master's before life demanded I start the first of a line of jobs, including having to return to truckstop waitressing, sad to say. That's life! *sigh*
