Having read this, you should indulge the "keyboard era" posthaste.
Permanent Waves (1980) Moving Pictures (1981) Signals (you're already on it, it appears) Grace Under Pressure (1984, one of their best albums) Power Windows (1985) Hold Your Fire (1987)
These albums are stocked front-to-back with one inspiring song after another. Neil's lyricizing peaked during this era, IMO. These albums have the vast majority of quotable Rush lyrics, the ones everyone uses — "If you choose not to decide / You still have made a choice"; "Suddenly you were gone / From all the lives you left your mark upon"; etcetera, etcetera.
Every album is pretty much a "bass player's clinic" for free, courtesy of Geddy. Neil's drumming reaches heights most drummers couldn't hit if they shot their sticks out of a cannon. Alex proves over and over again how he's every bit the shredder higher-rated guitarists are, yet he's much more tasteful and opts for a textured approach (but stills burns one killer solo after another).
So I've been watching Rush youtubes non stop. Wow. Some favs so far:
Subdivisons
Tom Sawyer
La Villa Strangiato
2112 (1997 Molson Amphitheater)
Xanadu
YYZ
Headlong Flight
Natural Science
Really awesome later stage setups! The stacks of Marshalls and Ampegs! Washing machines! The video and slide projections and lighting. The retro prop designs. Some fan cams are really good. Like the Greensboro 2015 shows.
Question- the roadies moving amps and stage stuff during performance? My guess is maybe that happened during a rehearsal and they decided put it in the show as an act?

Here's something a little different -- Lee doesn't sing all the way through:
Neil breaks down the Moving Pictures album 30 years later and brings insight to what they experienced at that time. He is so articulate and knowledgeable. I never had the pleasure to meet him in person, but he sure as hell seems like the type of guy I'd love to toss a few beers back with and learn what I could in the time I was there with him!
