Most of us probably cannot afford to rent studio time. So, if you record what's your set up? What hardware and software do you have?

I have no idea what recording equipment my band is using.
I just show up and beat up the drums.

We had our studio set up in our last house, and next week which is spring break for our kids, we told them that we could set up the 'music room'.....We're taking over the home office and putting back in our gear that has been sitting in storage in the basement for 6 years! ACK!

So with that in mind, I vaguely recall we had MOTU set up before, and a bunch of rack stuff that my husband dealt with since I spend most of my time in front of the mic. and not behind it.

But I do want to get into the engineering side and use my fingers, not just my ears!

I'll be happy to keep you posted on what we unearth over the course of the next few weeks if you want. We had recorded our stuff, score for television shows, independent films, and other bands, including a 12 piece Chicago style band with an entire horn section....(this was when we lived in Berkeley) I see your location says East Bay....did you record with us too?

I've only started recording recently. I did grow up in Berkeley though. Today I bounce back between SD and the East Bay.

Sounds like you've done some really cool stuff when you were recording. I lack the room for full set ups but have produced some good sounds from the keyboard. I currently use Firestudio and Cubase for recording.

As far as the engineering side is concerned; I won't do too much of that until I can one day afford to actually have a room I can dedicate to mastering and get good monitor speakers. Otherwise you end up with that "it sounded good when I did it on my speakers" situation.

I am finishing up about 8 songs right now and once they are mastered professionally, I will keep you posted as well.
