What are your plans? Will you stay or go? When will you make your decision? Where will you go?
I'll make my decision on Thursday night. Since most evacuation centers don't allow pets, I have a motel booked inland for Friday night and Saturday for me and my cat Regina.
Either way I will spend Thursday "battening down the hatches", bringing most of the outside furniture into the garage. I already have Regina's bag packed and am starting on mine.
Stay safe everyone.
Hi Retire in MB and thank you for all your great contributions to this forum. I have learned a lot from you. As a soon to be resident of Myrtle Beach, I have been participating on this forum for quite some time. Even though we are not "physically" there, I feel a connection to our future home and a concern for the people of Myrtle Beach during this time as a hurricane approaches. I watched Nikki Haley's announcement/press conference this morning and I just want to understand how many miles she thought was safe to travel inland. I thought she said "at least 100 miles". I am not familiar with many of the cities and towns in SC, nor do I know all the routes and highways. Based on the current evacuation recommendation, what cities would be good places to drive to, to escape the brunt of the storm? Wishing you safe traveling.
I spent many summers at the NC/SC coast and remember being told to evacuate due to a coming hurricane. We often decided to just ride it out - assuming that it wouldn't be that bad.
THEN I was in Charlotte for Hurricane Hugo. After seeing the devastation that occurred 200 miles inland I have NEVER ignored an evacuation for a hurricane again! It is not worth your life or the lives of rescuers.
We just purchased property in Myrtle Beach last Friday (Cypress River Plantation) and plan on moving down there from Long Island next summer to build. So as mentioned by goldentravler we also have a connection to Myrtle Beach now. I think you have made the right decision to get outta town! I hope you and Regina have safe travels and will be able to get back home soon. Stay well and be safe!!
I see real-time videos being posted on Facebook of other areas. How can I find current videos of the conditions in Garden City SC?? I'm not sure where to look......
we live in Little River, and am staying. Mostly because we have 3 dogs and a cat. Couldn't find a motel or hotel to take the pets, all were full, and most shelters refuse to take pets. So many animals were abandoned after the last flood, it doesn't seem fair that they won't open up more shelters for your pets. They are family. So it's scary, but we don't have much choice. We had the 2 dogs, then my granddaughter moved here with her dog and cat. I was praying the worse of the hurricane would miss us. Good luck to all, hope we all get through this.
Murrells Inlet (about 4 1/2 miles inland from the ocean)...we were torn between staying and leaving...decided to stay and so far (2:30Pm) just a lot of rain and wind, not damage, at least as of yet...no trees down, etc.
Since they did not actually announce an evacuation for Zone C we decided to hunker down. We know Matthew will be around for a few more hours before heading further north and east but so far so good.
