Yes, I confirmed with the DMV that one cannot turn left on a red light unless it is a one way to a one way.... just like anywhere else. DMV lady laughed at me for even asking. I wish they would make people take a written test when turning in their old license for a SC license. So many people from so many different regions that apparently have different traffic laws?

Left on a red light.... SMH

I think what they meant if you are already in the intersection and have been unable to take a left turn because you don't get a green turn arrow, you may turn on the yellow or red. What else can you do, at some intersections you'll never get to turn. This is what was emailed to me from scdot.org - If you pull out into the intersection (across the white line) during the green or yellow phase of the signal and wait for a gap in opposing traffic, it is legal to turn on the red.

My wife and I are in our 30s, and moved here 6 years ago from Boston.

IMHO, traffic is not a problem. Thaere are idiot drivers anywhere (turns out other cities have tourists who don't know where they're going as well )

Cost of living -- particularly housing -- is much cheaper; however my wife is a Nurse, and the medical pay is much lower.

The biggest challenge for non-retirees moving here is the job pay... You really have to crunch the numbers to understand if it can work for you, and/or what I always recommend is getting a remote job -- however doesn't sound like your careers are a good fit for that.

I have a local friend who is part of local band https://www.sweetsweetband.com/ - I think they're dropping a new album soon.
