Hello,I am a mother of five and looking to move to TN. I reside in Ohio and want change. I am having a hard time with where to start. I need to know of a safe and inexpensive place to raise my children. How are the elementary and high schools rated? Community colleges? How is the traffic? (freeways to get where needed or through cities)How is the weather in the fall and spring? Are there things to involve the children in? Is it as friendly as people say? Would it be really hard to find housing for a family of six or seven there? Is there public transportation in most places. How is the job field there? I plan on visiting next spring to check out a few things. What would you suggest for me to check out while I'm there?

Hi, newstart! I'm sure it seems overwhelming. I will address some of your basic questions.

There are lots of safe areas here, but "inexpensive" is in the eye of the beholder.

You absolutely will need a job here before you move. What type of work are you in? The job market can be great or terrible, depending on your line of work.

What are the ages of your children?

Do you want to rent or buy? How much do you want to spend on housing? Most likely the kids would share bedrooms.

Public transit is available (bus) in much of Nashville itself, but that's it. There is hardly any public transportation to speak of that goes to the outlying suburbs or counties. It would be VERY hard to live here without a car, especially with 5 kids. Not sure what part of Ohio you are from, but our transit is NOTHING like Cleveland's.

Yes, it is very friendly, and you get 4 seasons here. HOT, humid summers are very hard for some, but it's a trade-off. We don't have bad Ohio winters.

A visit is a must if you're considering a move.
