My move is finally happening! I start work in a week! My question is about socially acceptable behavior at the Downtown YMCA. I prefer to get my workout in before going to work in the morning, get dressed at the gym and head to work. I'm female, so this involves hair doing, makeup application, the whole 9 yards. Is there room in the locker rooms at the Y to undertake this? Is this relatively normal, or will people look at me like I have 2 heads if I'm doing all that in the locker room?

Also, my employer is less than a half a mile from the Downtown Y. I saw they charge for parking at that Y, so I'd like to park at work, walk to the Y and back. However, I remember noticing that there weren't a lot of pedestrians while I was there getting things arranged and I see I have to cross Rosa Parks Boulevard. Does anyone know if I can cross at Church Street and whether walking this early morning (like 7am) is advisable?

Lots of people shower and get dressed for work there. Lots of room and mirrors.

Yes, parking is $8 or so/month. I used to walk from my old apt up the Church Street steps and down Church. There are stoplights at the corner of Church and RP.

I thought the YMCA was high priced (actually more expensive than I paid at the Embarcadero YMCA in San Francisco which was just as nice but without all the religious propaganda on the walls. I did find a fabulous trainer there though. Thankfully he left and we now work out at Gym5 in East N for half the monthly cost.

"Religious propaganda"?? It is the YMC(hrisitan)A... hmm, never thought of it so narrow mindedly as to consider it "propaganda".
