My family and I just moved out to Murfreesboro, TN. We like it. Hate the traffic though. We'd like to move into a "smaller" town feeling place. We have been searching for houses and what we can afford (we're a one income family) all seems to be in the area of Columbia. We have been told to stay away from Lewisburg/Shelbyville. What can you tell us about Columbia.

And by "afford" I mean, buy out right. No mortgage!

Oh, and we have four small children, homeschool, and go to church...

If you like your rebel flags flying high and your neighbors sitting on the front porch in their robes, Columbia is the city for you.

The house my hubs just looked at is about ten minutes outside of Columbia, east side.

Really?? Have lived in Columbia 5 yrs. & have yet to see that, though sometimes I go out to get the morning paper in my robe!

To the OP: There is a pretty large network of homeschool people in Columbia, I think. My neighbors are homeschooling. East of Columbia is good IF you are as far as Tom Hitch or beyond. I think you're better off getting a place in the country around Columbia.

Thank you We are only about three miles from the 65. It's funny because I've had such differing opinions on Columbia. Some say it's awful and others say it's a great little town.

Okay. It's five miles east from Tom Hitch.

I've been there twice and seen it both times. Not in the same area of town, either.

Don't know anybody living on Sowell Mill, but have friends off of Cliff White. Is it in a subdivision?
