Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this. Is there a difference between Williamson County (great county for school-age kids for education), Wilson, Davidson, Sumner, etc. for amenities seniors would enjoy? For instance, pickleball courts, senior centers, great libraries, great hiking trails, water for boating. I am so looking forward to your response. It means a lot to us. Thank you!!! Marilyn

Don't know about pickleball courts. With all the different parks plenty of senior centers, libraries, hiking trails in Nashville/Davidson county. For boating need access to Percy Priest or Old Hickory lakes if not the Cumberland River. Nearby go to Land Between the Lakes between TN & KY.

Rutherford County has a great senior community. All three municipalities offer many activities, access to waterways such as Percy Priest and the Stones River.

Not sure if being in and around Nashville is important, but you could check out Crossville to the east. It is very popular with retirees and has all the things you listed. The retail and restaurant scene is not the best, but is improving. Access to more options is only an a quick trip to Cookeville or Knoxville.

Might be worth a look.

That is not a good suggestion. The OP is asking about counties surrounding Nashville, and you want to recommend a city that's four counties away and is so remote that they'd have to go to Knoxville for a decent night out? Not to mention that the OP specifically wants a place with boating, and the only boating in Crossville is on large ponds that don't allow any wake.

To the OP: since you specifically mentioned boating, stick with the eastern and northern suburbs: Sumner and Wilson counties, and maybe northern Rutherford.

I'm not sure what went wrong in Crossville but the property crime rate (per Sperlings) is almost triple the national average and the violent crime rate is double.

For a point of reference, they list the property crime rate substantially lower in Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, etc. THIS might have something to do with the sad reality of life in small/rural towns...

This is solid advice.

It is an unfortunate reality with our drug epidemic. I had hoped things would turn around for Crossville.

The best thing you can do to find a place is come visit and decide for yourselves. We looked for 2 years before we decided on a place.
