Can anyone that moved from Mi to TN
tell me if the cost of living is cheaper in Michigan or in TN
I am moving their in 2 weeks my electric, water, and cable bill run about 215-250 an month and the gas bill to heat my home runs about 250 or more then I have property taxs of 3800.00 an year and an morage of $975. so I pay out 1793.00 so I ask your opinion on this matter.
thank you

I lived in Michigan for 18 years and Wisconsin (similar except for higher taxes than MI) for 20 years. The cost of living as far as things like utilities is lower in TN...a lot lower in some cases. The sales tax is MUCH higher in TN...but there is no state income tax. Your heating bills will be lower but you'll run more AC in the summer months. My husband ooohs and aahhhhhhhhhhs over our utility bills all the time!~

Oh...I should add....some groceries are much higher down here. You might have a mild heart attack when you see the price of dairy products for example.

If your paying $3800.00 a year in property taxes on a house with a monthly mortgage payment of $975 then I'm guessing they will be a lot lower down here.

I have a lot of family in Michigan. The people in Upper Michigan are doing much better than the ones in lower MI these days. The auto industry problems have had a domino effect on the whole economy and it's postively grim down there. It's not gonna get better for a long while either.

I find groceries higher here. Some of my utilities are higher (water where I live in TN is 3x higher). However, there is no state income tax (like was already mentioned), car and homeowners insurance is considerably less and the property taxes are much lower.
