Can anyone give any insight on trash collection in the city of Franklin? We just bought a house there and were told by the city that we would have to buy a trash can from them for $75 since the previous owners did not leave it.

When I told her we were considering using another company who also picks up in our neighborhood, I was told that I would still be charged a trash collection fee from the city since our house is within city limits.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

It seems like they should bill the previous owners for not leaving it because it's city property. Either way, your taxes go toward trash pick-up. I have never known anyone who paid for private collection in the city of Franklin because you'd be paying twice.
They recently started charging a little extra, and there are a lot of rules about what they will take.

Thanks. I am still waiting to hear back from them. The same lady has given me 2 different stories. First she said that the trash can was given free to the builder of the home and the can is the property of the home. When an owner moves the can stays as it is the property of Franklin and stays with the home. When I told her that maybe the previous owners should pay the $75 because they took it, she then said that everyone has to buy their own can for $75 when moving to the city of Franklin. When you move you take your trash can. Not sure what to believe now. In Davidson County you don't buy a can. They deliver it to you and when you cancel your service they pick it up. Don't know about the service being put into our taxes in Williamson County as she said we will receive a monthly bill which will include $12 a month for trash collection.

Looks like I am just going to have to pay the $75 for a trash can but it would have been nice for the city to give some definite clarification instead of changing stories.
