Has anybody heard of such a thing? My husband found an equipment trailer on airport property that his company uses very seldom, and he saw feral cats going in and out of it. He looked inside and saw both cats and raccoons were living in it. I wonder how they learned to get along?

The cats were just emergency rations!

Not uncommon here in Miami in a few parks; a bunch of feral cats and raccoons, all living together. They stay out of people's way, but it is obvious people feed them as they will approach with caution people coming up to them, I think they hang out until the park closes and go search for food.

The seemed to get along great, even laying next to each other, and not getting into an argument or anything with each other.

I have seen cats and iguanas living together also, but there does not seem to be as close of a companionship as with the raccoons.

Feral cats and raccoons are sort of in the same boat.

Some cats take it even further. ---> Mother Cat, J.J., Adopts Baby Raccoon, Bandit, As Her Own At Jonesboro Animal Control In Arkansas (PHOTOS)

Most of us have heard of raccoons eating the food of outdoor pet cats.

My husband was just talking about this the other day. He works at a water treatment facility, big place, nice and warm with a lot of cats. He was telling me that a raccoon moved indoors with the cats and when he places food out, the cats and the raccoon all come running to eat it. They share the same dishes and don't seem to mind.

yes my sister lives in a neighborhood where there are a lot of feral cats and raccoons living together in the woods and my sister thinks it is cute and it really shows that the human population can learn something from the animal population .

Yes, all the time in my area. There seems to be a bit of compatibility in their social interactions. In my last apartment complex there was a family of raccoons that lived in a nest with two cats.

Cats often get along quite well with other small predators their size, or nearly their size. Territory and food might be shared with raccoons, possums, skunks, and foxes. Mutual avoidance is usually the preferred conduct between predators of diffenent species that are about the same size. Some years ago once observed a raccoon, a skunk, and a feral cat on a small patch of riverbank at the same time. All three ignored the others and payed no more than a passing interest, even though they were just a few feet away.
