I didn't get a good picture of it since it was a ways from the camera and it was kinda dark (rain), but better than nothing I guess. It's bigger than a crow, and it seemed to be hunting for worms.

It's definitely a gull, I think that might be a juvenile female Herring Gull. Kind of hard to tell for sure since the picture is grainy and so it's hard to find well defined patterns on that bird. This website has pictures of some gulls of North America and the juvenile Herring Gull shown there looks closest in appearance to the gull you photographed, just scroll down a bit: https://www.surfbirds.com/namericanbirds/gull-tern.html

Yep, definitely a gull. Herring Gull is a possibility but a juvenile Ring-billed Gull is a possibility, too.
