Saw one of new plates today, in my opinion it's both bright and cheerful but tastefully done.

I like parts of the new plate, but not everything. I love the Western-style font for Nevada. The color is alright, and the mountains at the bottom are alright. I just wish they would have retained "The Silver State" at the bottom instead of "Home Means Nevada." "The Silver State" has been on our main license plate since 1983. Also, that font doesn't match the Nevada font, like it does on the current plate.

I'm still waiting to see a new plate. Though I was thinking about it the other day when I saw "The Silver State" is where "Home Means Nevada" would go. I wonder if it has to do with Alaska is the number one State leading in Silver mining today followed by Nevada.

I doubt it. Nevada has been known as "The Silver State" since 1864. Alaska is "The Last Frontier" or "Land of the Midnight Sun". But I believe Alaska dropped the "Last Frontier" from their license plates a few years ago too. So maybe Nevada dropping the historical nickname from the license plates is part of a trend.

Unfortunately the people who make these decisions don't put a lot of thought into them. Everybody knows Nevada is "The Silver State". "Home Means Nevada" is just so generic. Home means whatever state you live in. So it is meaningless. My gut feeling is, they couldn't agree on which slogan to put on the plate, so they put all the possibilities on a wheel, then spun it and "Home Means Nevada" came up.

I am changing my veterans plates to the circa 1983 plates. Simple blue with white numbers and letters. A license plate need not be a design exercise. California is going back to dark blue plates with gold numbers.

Do you mean gold on black California plates? California started issuing premium gold on black legacy plates. I believe they also considered issuing gold on blue legacy plates, but there wasn't enough interest for them. I haven't heard of any plans for California to switch standard plates back to gold on blue. I guess that same type of program that you are using to get the white on blue plates.

They are nice license plates. They are probably one of the very few things that would make me want to consider wasting money on premium license plates. I guess I'm kind of nostalgic too for the days when license plates had nothing but nice colors on them.

It looks like something that a DIY'er designed using scraps of tissue paper, and posted on Pinterest just minutes after.
