The 400-mile stretch of US-50 between Delta and Fernley is to die for. Much of it is set-the-car-up-on-the-center-line-and-place-the-go-pedal-against-the-firewall. The twisty parts are simply spectacular, so you don't feel like you're missing anything when not hammering flat-out.

The twenty or so miles of straightaway west out of Austin will allow a driver to feel like it's the 1950s. It's that wide-open. However, do not speed through Austin.

Austin? Are you referring to Texas or US-50 in Nevada?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was referring to US-50 passing through Austin, Nevada.

If it is free of traffic congestion it's a great highway.
