When Pembroke was incorporated in 1759, one mile was taken from the westerly border of Allenstown and included in Pembroke. The result was inhabitants of Pembroke refused to maintain or repair any bridges over the Suncook River. The answer was to reannex the land back to Allenstown. Hence the two towns have been entwined for a couple of centuries.
Didn't know that bit of history, buck. Thanks. Y'know, if I'd thought my post through a little more thoroughly I would have remembered that Suncook has a post office and, thus, its own zip. I have a relative who delivers mail out of that office! Going totally by memory here, but I think it's 03275.
