The locals had a bad attitude to it. Same thing at Pease AFB (PSM) near Portsmouth. The locals convinced people that it would cause traffic chaos and heavy traffic past their homes, round Portsmouth, despite the fact that the airport has major roads on two sides neither of which have any homes between the airport and the road. It's actually Newington. There was one very vocal complainer who said the air traffic would be terrible, that despite the fact that the USAF/ANG operates tankers (KC135 and KC46) and heavy lift aircraft (C-17 Globemaster III) from there already. A couple of Amazon 767s each day weren't going to be noticed. I think the arguments were specious, but I don't have a horse in that race. And it's not like the area is desperate for poorly paid jobs with bad working conditions.
Was this project in addition to - or in competition with- the Fitchburg Mass warehouse in the old Simonds Saw building?
