Have you folks seen this?

COVID-19 Provisional Counts

The CDC has quietly revised it's data and is now claiming that only 6% of the deaths reported due to COVID 19 were actually caused by the virus itself. That means that less than 10,000 people have died due to this disease!

So, our dear benevolent leaders have shut down and destroyed a booming economy and wrecked the lives of untold numbers of Americans because of a bad cold.

Once again, fear and hysteria rule the day. Once again our mainstream news media fuel a fire that turns out to be a lie.

Mr. Governor. Open up our state, our schools, and remove the restrictions that have caused your citizens so much undue suffering!

Yeah, and all of those people who jumped from the World Trade Center buildings were "depressed" after seeing their co-workers "directly hit" by the planes. No relationship there either ...right?

If you look at the fine print there can be up to an 8 week delay. That’s huge.

The fact that 94% of those who died had comorbidities does NOT mean that only 6% of the count have died of Covid-19. If you have high blood pressure and then get shot, does that mean that you didn't die from being shot? If you have AIDS and die of pneumonia, does that mean you didn't die from AIDS?

In many cases, the Covid-19 is either *causing* or *exacerbating* the comorbidities. Even when they were pre-existing, you gotta realize that something like 80% of people that are 55 and up have *some*kind of health issues... but they can live with these for 20+ years, if they don't run into Covid-19.

Here is a graph of 2.5 years of deaths from ALL causes in the USA. Also included is a curve (the yellow line) corresponding to the 95% confidence interval on a modeled prediction of mortality from all causes. Notice that once you get to March 28th, 2020, the total deaths go well above that boundary. This is when the pandemic exploded. Because the blue bars show actual deaths from all causes (regardless of what they were labeled as due to), the labeled cause of death has zero effect. And yet, there is a large and persistent number of excess deaths that continue until this day. And you know how many excess deaths there are? 200,000.

So no, this isn't some imaginary thing, where some nefarious labeling of deaths is making it look bad.

I've seen that data too.

So, COVID kills the already dying. If they'd caught the flu, or some other kind of bad cold, that could very well have killed them as well. Flu kills 12,000 to 60,000 a year and we don't shut down the economy because of it.

Fact still remains. The economy and our lives were turned upside down for a disease that only kills the already dying.

No, that's not true. If you have high blood pressure, or you are overweight, it's not accurate to say that you are "already dying"...unless you want to say that about anyone who is breathing - then everyone is already dying - life is always fatal, in the end.

And if you want to talk about the numbers - we've had over 180,000 die so far, and it will go much further. And, if we didn't do all this social distancing and mask wearing, we might have 500,000-1,000,000 deaths.

My point is people who would normally catch an illness and recover have no worries about this disease. No more worries than any otherwise healthy individual would have from a cold or flu.

We don't shut down our economy every year when a new strain of flu comes out. But this was different. They fed on our fears. You should be pissed about this, not rationalizing that what they've done to our economy is ok.

This is about the 20th thread on this topic – so I’ll just re-hash the main points:
It has been known for a long time that sick people suffer more. There was nothing “quiet” about the CDCs data – it has always been there. The main thing that seems to surprise folks is that MOST deaths (not just COVID) are hardly alone in their cause. This mainly just points out that only 6% or so of us – that got COVID – are perfectly healthy to start with. Most people are not – and the covid demographic is no different.

Do people dying of cancer die exclusively of cancer? Or heart disease? Or AIDS? No. Many contributing factors – same with COVID.

I’m more surprised that anyone is surprised than by the data itself. This is old news – except to the reporter who decided to run with it.

New strains of flu do not kill 180,000 people.

Case in point.
I worked with a fellow that had gone into a nursing home with terminal brain cancer. While in there, he also developed COVID. The death was reported as COVID. The numbers are greatly inflated.

I cannot believe that COVID has killed 180,000 people.

True, but flu does kill about 40k people per year, largely from the same group covid 19 is killing. Why is it ok to do nothing to prevent those 40k deaths per year, year after year after year, but for 180k for one year the entire country shuts down?

The reality is the shut downs didn't work. Distancing and masks slow the spread enough to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed, the shut downs just delayed the inevitable. As soon as they were lifted the number of cases skyrocketed higher than they were before the shut downs, and then tapered off as the disease ran it's course. We're no better off than sweden which never had a shut down and went straight to distancing and masks, and sweden is now done with it. They lifted what restrictions they had. We're about 3 months behind them because we locked down for 3 months. We'll be done with it too before a vaccine arrives.
