Will I be able to survive traveling NH without car? I plan on visiting areas like Gorham and Meredith. Are there available public transportation in these areas?
If no, can you recommend a town in NH that has Uber, Lyft or some kind of public transportation like trains or a bus. Thank you!
Public transportation in northern NH is nearly zero...service is sometimes available within each town, but routes between towns frequently run only once a day. Uber and Lyft are sparse up here also. Trains are limited to Amtrak in the Seacoast area towns and Amtrak up the Connecticut River Valley along the VT/NH border. Within the larger southern cities like Manchester, Concord, and Nashua, you can find Uber as well as MTA bus service to the immediate surrounding communities.
If you're going to be here on vacation, rent a car.
Via either bus or train of course, you still need to have a plan for how you'll get around locally once you land in town(s). If you are a cyclist and have a touring bike with a rack and panniers, you could at least explore locally on your bike a lot easier than walking... I think there are *some* provisions to take a bike on some bus and train routes. Some of the bigger towns like Littleon and Laconia may have taxis as well - need to really research that stuff carefully to verify the outfits are still open and will really show up to get you...
As KCZ said though, I think your best option is to rent an inexpensive car at e.g. Manchester airport and use that to get around. It will cost more, but you'll have a lot more flexibility and convenience and won't wind up stuck somewhere with no ride. https://www.flymanchester.com/ground...n/car-rentals/

Ah, I might visit those larger southern cities then instead of north. Thank you so much!

If you seek a hilly or mountainous area with spectacular scenery and excellent, fast and frequent public transportation options I might suggest Switzerland.

OP, did you visit? Or finalize a plan?
When I read this possibility of a pretty big change in your plans, I wondered what you hoped to get out of the trip, and what was prompting you to visit at all. The cities in southern NH aren’t really “cities” in the sense of most cities… in fact in a lot of national rankings and such almost all of them would be categorized as “small towns”! Very few of them really have much to offer tourists. I mean, some are cute but they’re not destination cities, but more like jumping off points to see the rest of NH. You can really see any of them in a day.
Portsmouth has the most to offer tourists mainly because of its coastal location and age. It’s one of the smallest “cities,” with a population of maybe 22,000.
