My husband and I may be assigned to Portsmouth NH in December and his biggest concern is how Asian Americans are accepted in that general vicinity.
He's caucasian and I'm Asian American.

I'd also like to know what the job market is like for someone in marketing and communication. I have a bachelors degree in communication and over 10 years or marketing experience - mostly credit union/financial marketing.

Oh, one more thing. We recently purchased a 4-runner 2-wheel drive and he's concerned that this vehicle won't make it on the roads there because of how much it snows.

Can't tell you anything about the job market, but as to being Asian-American, geez, I don't think anyone would care! Near as I can tell about the only place your really run into race issues is oddly in New Ipswich where there's a lot of friction between the Finns and the non-Finns (go figure!). For the most part, no one cares what your genetic makeup is, it's more your work ethic and general attitude. And neither of those has a thing to do with race or ethnicity. I should think you'd be fine.

As to driving in the snow... they plow the roads in NH they also salt/sand them. If you have good tires and drive sensibly, you should be fine. If it's your first time driving in/on snow, take it slowly and don't make sudden moves.

Portsmouth is lovely, enjoy it.

i have noticed that there are plenty of asian americans here, and there are also plenty of asian restaurants, so i doubt you would have any problems here.

as for having a 2 wheel drive, check out this thread:

Default Great Feedback

Thanks for the feedback, especially the thread on 2wd vehicles. I'm sure my husband won't be too concerned now.

Also, as far as employment goes, you shouldn't have any problem getting a good job here with your background. Check out the businesses at Pease Tradeport in Portsmouth, or possibly Liberty Mutual, who is a huge employer here.
