Although I live in Bergen County, I've read (and heard) that Camden is a fairly high-crime and neglected area ... I'm not sure it is as bad as Newark, but I honestly don't know .... It's heartbreaking for the good people that do live there and wish they could get out ...

You're more than twice as likely to be victimized in Camden than Newark. I don't want to be in either, for sure, but Camden's been hit harder.

There are about half as many crimes in Camden, but Camden's around 2/3 smaller than Newark.

Camden is definitely worse than Newark.

Went to Rutgers Camden....

Camden is bad. Very bad. That being said, I never really felt as if I were in danger. Most of the violent crimes in Camden are drug related, so you'll typically only find trouble if you're looking for it.

While Camden is ugly, Rutgers-Camden and the surrounding area is rather pretty, in a post apocalyptic sort of way.

The problem with Camden is that it lacks jobs. The only job options for people with no skill set in Camden are Mcdonalds, the hospital (Janitorial jobs), and the college (Which primarily hires student workers and not residents of the city).

Putting new schools in Camden is the first step towards fixing it. The area needs income.

I feel like the only hope for Camden is for it to be a bedroom community to Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs...

The the Northeast High Speed Rail Line gets built, maybe Camden can also be a bedroom community for NYC.

There is hope for Camden, even if most people can't see it.

The only real hope for Camden is if Rutgers and Rowan buy out most of it... Which, they're doing a pretty good job so far.

Are there plans to link Camden to the Northeast High Speed Rail Line? I thought it will still be
NYC->North Jersey->Trenton->PA->DE, bypassing Camden and Southern NJ, but plans of going through Market East instead of 30th St., which would be better for Camden County and PATCO, albeit worse for Atlantic City and the AC Line.

I know some that work in Camden (such as Cooper Hospital) and live in Philly, where Philly is the bedroom community for Camden!

Yea, I think he just meant that Camden is a hop, skip, and jump from Market East.
