thats great news. There is also supposed to be a new Fresh Grocer Supermarket breaking ground near the Ferry Ave PATCO station. Its part of a transit village project. It would be wonderful for Camden to go from no supermarkets to 2 in just a couple of years.

Did the Pathmark on Mt Ephraim Ave close?

It's still there. But, maybe Pathmark will close with the new ShopRite there or plans for that store? Genuardi's closed in Voorhees even before the Super Wal-Mart in Somerdale officially opened. While that store was probably already underperforming and competition (more with Target selling more groceries), WM's plans sealed the deal, as Wal-Mart plans were on it's way when Genuardi's closed the store. There was common catchment with the Echelon apartment residents.

Anyways, good for Camden. Hopefully this ShopRite store will be nice and not look dumpy within 3 years, and maybe Camden could support both ShopRite and Pathmark.

The racetrack ShopRite already services Camden in a way as Camden residents drive to the racetrack store, but it's not mentioned that the Camden store is a relocation.

I'm still surprised Ravitz isn't interested in better capturing the Haddonfield/Westmont area. I mean the Union Mill Rd. store services a 1/3 of Mt.Laurel which I think is a small territory, and they can make that store work, but they can't re-open Brace Rd, or choose a site in Westmont? To me, it doesn't make sense, but I'm not privy to all the data.

There is also an Aldi in Collingswood, which is near the PATCO Ferry Avenue location. It's very close to the Camden border.

My question was rhetorical. It was sort of a response to the statement that there are no supermarkets in Camden. I've heard the no supermarket in Camden for decades but when a lot of the county offices were moved from Federal St to Mt Ephraim Ave, & I had occasion to go, there was the Pathmark, almost across from the county offices.

I believe that there is also a Save-A-Lot in Camden.

Some renderings of the proposed shopping center and more details in the Courier Post: http://www.courierpostonline.com/art...WS01/303190045

CAMDEN — Officials announced plans Tuesday for a long-sought supermarket on Admiral Wilson Boulevard, saying a ShopRite store could anchor a newly built shopping center within two years.

The supermarket is expected to occupy half of a 150,000-square-foot complex at the boulevard and 17th Street. The project, which still awaits financing, would bring fresh groceries and badly needed jobs to the nation’s poorest city, said Mayor Dana Redd.

The key would here is could (be anchored).

The article says that this would make 3 supermarkets in east Camden. Whether the 2 current stores are supermarkets or corner grocery stores I don't know. The article doesn't say.

Default PriceRite coming to Camden

The Ravitz family is opening a PriceRite at the site of the former Pathmark in Camden on Mount Ephraim Avenue. The PriceRite banner is owned by Wakerfern Food Corp., and is similar in style to Aldi, Bottom Dollar, and Save-A-Lot stores. This new PriceRite will compliment the planned ShopRite (also Ravitz owned) planned to open on Admiral Wilson Boulevard in 2016.

PriceRite Coming to Camden

By the way, it seems like this is the first PriceRite to the area, and only second in NJ...

Wouldn't that be dangerous? Building, running and guarding a shopping center in Camden? Did they ever consider what kind of clientele they can expect in Camden?
