I guess what I'm saying is that just because you are from a certain part of New Jersey does not make you any better or less of a person.

It's all relative I guess. Compared to the North/Central Jersey suburbs, CH is very affordable. I thought I died and went to heaven when I first started looking around here....of course, this was after a long search in North Jersey. But I talk to longtime South Jersey residents, and they talk about how expensive it is here.

The taxes are on the high side. Still, I know people who have a lot less who pay a lot more in property taxes up north. If you want to utilize the good school system, you won't mind paying the taxes. If you don't have any children, I'd probably pass on CH as there may be cheaper options in Burlington County.

For us, Cherry Hill was "the"option. I so wanted to move back to Monmouth County to be close to my mom and to be where I grew up but, "The computer says no!" <----Little Britain reference....lol

I disagree. Yes several parts of North Jersey and some areas of central NJ are much more expensive but there isn't as much as a difference as people suggest. Cherry Hill has a huge mix of housing, some very small, many bi-levels and you are paying a ton in taxes.

Here's 450K in Cherry Hill:

4 bed, 3 bath, ranch, no basement on 2 acres, taxes $18K(!!!!)

$440K, bi-level, renovated, 4 bed, 2.5 baths, taxes $10K

Compare that to a town like Bridgewater and you'll find very little difference in house and lower taxes in Bridgewater.

Somerset County towns, for the most part, have lower taxes than many other NJ counties. My wife's best friend lived in Bridgewater for about 5 years, and her taxes on an assessed home of 450k were $5800 (in 2002), or lower than what we were paying our last year in Burlington County.

on the other end of the spectrum of Cherry hill.

In our quest for a house, we found ourselves looking at 2 houses in Cherry hill. The houses were cheap and the taxes were fair. Believe it or not there is a section of Cherry hill that is like this. Single homes for around $250 and taxes at $4500 or so. This section is between rt 38 and Maple ave closer to rt 130. You CAN live cheap in CH .. In fact, I just did a search and you can find single homes in CH for as low as $140k. Serious. Single homes. Here ya go.. Look..

These are all tiny fixer uppers, on tiny lots and are still $200K. You can also find this stuff all throughout New Jersey as well for cheap. Cherry Hill has a wide range of housing stock since it is a huge town and some parts are cheaper than others.
