Wow! I am getting so tired of home searching.. initially we were focused on Edison but after doing some searching and commuting solutions (I will need to commute to Jersey City for work) I looked into Piscataway due to lower prices of new houses..
So in particular, there are "many" new homes on Marcel Lane listed on Trulia, I am not sure of what this development is called or even if there is a HOA involved they all seem like single family houses, can anyone give any insight into this?
Also to expand topic, which one would YOU choose between Piscataway and Edison?? I really feel like I get more house for the $$$ in Piscataway?

I put my internet sleuthing skills to work for you because I have a raging case of insomnia.
I found that Marcel Lane in Piscataway is a brand new (**or newish? see my comment below) development (Bing doesn't even have this street on its maps yet) of new construction, single family homes.
There is conflicting info on various realtor websites as to whether or not there is an HOA. One realtor website says "N/A" for HOA. Another realtor website says that there is an HOA fee of $41/month.
**I'm not sure what the deal is, exactly. I mean, like I said, the street isn't even on some maps yet, but it seems the development has been around since at least 2010, probably started building in 2009, based on an earlier thread/various other posts that people posted about this development on City Data as early as January 2010:
But according to Trulia, some of the houses were built in 2013. Also according to Trulia, it's a development of 30 homes. I'd try to find out who the builder is and what their reputation is.
You can find more info on individual properties (current owners, when they purchased, how much they paid, which properties are still empty, etc. etc.) by looking up the public property tax info here:
Select MIDDLESEX, PISCATAWAY, and then for LOCATION, type "MARCEL". Then repeat using "GALLINI" for the LOCATION.
Looks like most of the properties are already occupied. About 9 of the 30 properties are either still empty lots or the houses are still being built. I guess DACC Properties, LLC is the builder. It seems they acquired the land for the development in 2007. Interesting.
Anyway, according to the posts in the City Data threads I linked above, Flower Farm is specifically located in a neighborhood of Piscataway called the Arbor section. Some other info there too, if you're interested. I don't know too much about Piscataway so I can't give you an informed opinion. There is a person who posted in one of the threads that he/she purchased a home in Flower Farm. Unfortunately, that person last posted in 2010. You can try sending that person a direct message anyway. Couldn't hurt. Or maybe someone will chime in here.
As a former resident of both Edison and Piscataway I know that area. For years it was a flower farm and in the past five years it was transformed into a residential development.
The Arbor section of Piscataway is located between Plainfield and South Plainfield and is not the most desirable section of Piscataway. The Arbor section used to be a working class white section 40 years ago and now is a mixed neighboorhood of blacks wanting out of Plainfield and whites who won't leave the old neighborhood.
We left Edison 50 years ago for Piscataway because Edison was getting overcrowded and Piscataway was still a farm town. Now both twps. are overcrowded.
Edison has a large Asian/Indian population while Piscataway is still mostly white there is a large black population.
The North section of Edison has a reputation for having better schools that the Southern section.
The better the reputation of the schools is a reason for higher home prices in Edison over Piscataway.
The old location, location, location rule comes into play here.
You might get more home for you money in Piscataway but according to the internet "education experts" Edison will give your children a better education.
Which town would I pick? A different town in Somerset County.
Thank you so much Docendo and PDD! Thats exactly what I was looking for!
