For northern & northeast NJ...it has been very dry lately. Things look sickly and polluted. Who can remember the last time it's been this dry? Any weather nerds want to explain why we've been dodging systems?!

This will give you a more in-depth view.
Hot, dry weather depleting North Jersey drinking water supply [video] - News - NorthJersey.com

Also, yes, most people's lawns are in sorry shape and any body of water around northern NJ looks depleted. I run around the duck pond in Ridgewood and have never seen the water level of the pond so low.

Yeah all the street trees in Jersey City are in sad shape, lindens especially. It has been a bad year for trees in this area. The late April freeze killed off a lot of trees' buds and we had quite a few trees fail to leaf-out this spring/summer as a result. Add this drought, and the trees that did produce leaves are dropping them.

I meant to post this but forgot:

I like to hike in South Mountain Reservation and water there, streams and lakes have dried out. 10-20 years ago people used to fish there and catch fish, obviously lakes and streams that dry out in summers will not have fish living there.

I am going to go to South Mountain Reservation today after 3 p.m. to further investigate this matter.

I have also seen small snakes there, which made me google if there are snakes in NJ, and there are, which is kinda confusing to me, I thought NJ was to cold for snakes and reptiles who are cold blooded.

As far as NJ's 2015 drought, it's September 5th today, Summer is almost over and in another 3 weeks rainy season will begin.

I like to type into google "drought" and then the year. So "drought 2014" looks like this.

There are plenty of snakes in NJ, generally of two classifications. Reptile and politician.

The Bermuda High has been parked over us for most of the summer. This causes most weather systems to stay to our west or bypass us to the north.

Anyway, enjoy the warm, dry weather while you can. Another cold, snowy winter is in the forecast. This is my favorite weather site and these guys are usually spot on:

Public Winter 15-16 Forecast

It angers me when people water their lawns when we're in the middle of a drought. We should be conserving water, people, not wasting it. This is common sense, and there are more important things than your precious lawns.

Spot on commentary. Any relation to Bill "Spaceman" Lee of baseball fame, back in the day? One of the great all time nicknames!
