Should never ever cry broke. I parked at a meter and paid for the two hours ( I was working part time in downtown newark for a few weeks so figured it was cheaper to park at a meter rather than a lot). Anyway meter expires at 1 and I'm not running to my car because I figured it was only a couple of minutes until i got from the 14th floor. I get outside at 1:03 and lo and behold I have a ticket. I flip the ticket over to see the price and it is a whopping $45

25 cent meter violation=$45 ticket.. any other town it's $18

GOOD GRIEF!

NY City used to be the place that would outrageously p*ss me off with parking ticket prices, to the point where many people ignore them because they are so ridiculously high. On top of that if they tow (steal) your car away, you better have a few hundred on you to retrieve it from the parking thieves. They have politically appointed city marshals that go around and steal cars that owe NYC money, then you wind up paying about $800 or whatever to get your personal property back from these thieves.

Philadelphia parking authority is slow water torture. One of my kids lived there and getting a car back takes all day and they actually have people that wind up owing thousands of dollars for several tickets.

Newark used to mail out tickets to people who have never been there. I got one and called them, they had the wrong car description so they dropped it over the phone.
