Just a question for folks familiar with Jersey City. I'm thinking of moving there next fall for a grad program at NJCU. Are there neighborhoods close to the university where I might find a 2 bedroom for around $1000/month?

There might be, but I don't think you'd want to live there. That's Greenville, and it's kind of dangerous.

$1000 for 2br in jersey city will not be in a good/safe area, your best bet with that budget is bayonne.

Okay, that's all helpful information. Bayonne and the Heights both seem like reasonable bets. Thanks folks!

The northern end of Bayonne is closer than the JC Heights and probably safer. It's a 10 minute bus ride to state college.
