Having grown up in UC, most everyone there considers it North.

Definitely North. Still above the banks of the old Rar-i-tan River.

You can count this as one more vote for Union County being in the northern part of the state.

Union County straddles the "unoficial border" between North and Central NJ.
The Northernmost parts of Union County being in North Jersey and the Southernmost part (Plainfield) being in Central NJ.

Many maps show Union County as being in Central NJ but they are incorrect.

This also holds true for parts of Hunterdon and Somerset counties.

As someone who had resided in Central NJ for more than 65 years I know where the boundaries are located, anything else is just speculation.

Correct

Your map isn't precise but it looks to have Camden in Central Jersey which is not the case. It's South Jersey.

My map (which I copied off the internet) is just as reliable as all the other North, Central, South NJ maps floating around on the net.

Who cares where the South Jersey border is other than those living near the border?

It places dozens of towns that are the very core of South Jersey in Central Jersey. I don't know about the top line, but the bottom line is off.

I say Union is in North Jersey. No county that is home to half of Newark Airport is "Central Jersey" to me. Also places like Union, Summit, Westfield, Cranford, etc. feel more North Jersey to me than Central. If categorizing counties on-the-whole, I'd go with this distribution:

North:
Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, Warren, Morris, Essex, Hudson, Union

Central:
Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth

South:
Ocean, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, Atlantic, Cape May

But one's definition of these regions varies by their own perspective. Some folks from Bergen County think that ONLY Bergen County is North Jersey. Meanwhile some folks from Burlington County say that New Brunswick is in North Jersey.
