Needless to say, the cost is pretty much funded by the people for the people......I guess.
Actually most kids in charter schools are relatively well off relative to other students in the same district. They have parents that actually care about education unlike a lot of the parents.

I do have to agree in that respect. Every day, on my way to work, I used to see parents dropping off their children at the North Star Charter School in downtown Newark. I noticed that a large portion of these parents drove rather luxurious vehicles. But since I don't have school age children, I have never really looked into it. What are their admission criteria?

"Lottery" but you are only in it if you apply. Its a proven fact that charter school kids are much better off then their counterparts in regular public schools.
Think about it, if your parent doesnt care about school why in the world would they even sign their kids up for the charter lottery. My friends kids goes to Robert Treat. Parents are a cop and a lawyer, not exactly regular Newark parents. They drive a Benz and a Benz Truck.
