I'm curious about this too...

Have you ever tried the DIY soil ph tests?

I found this one on Amazon: Amazon.com: Luster Leaf 1601 Rapitest Soil Test Kit: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Would a landscaping company be able to do this sort of testing?

i read online that the DIY jobs are often very incorrect.

rutgers does the tests, and you can contact your local extension office to get the kit. $20 for the kit and basic test. they do more advanced tests as well for more money

It makes sense that a lab would be most accurate; perhaps landscapers use the DIY kits...

Do you have have to deliver the kit to New Brunswick to be tested? I would hope there would be a closer place.

you do have to deliver, but i think you can send it in. i'm stopping to get the stuff today or tomorrow, so i'll let you know. i need to improve my lawn, so i'm trying to decide what to do. i noticed your thread in gardening, you're probably not far from me! i'm evaluating my lawn care options, trying to lean towards organic feeds due to dog and infant!

I have a dog and children as well, so I would really prefer something organic myself.

I found a few forums on Gardenweb that might be useful to you:

This one deals with organic lawn care: Organic Lawn Care - GardenWeb

This is their NJ forum: Gardening in New Jersey - GardenWeb

I might have to post there because no one is responding to my posts here!

Lab testing is more accurate but samples must be taken from more than one area. Follow the directions on obtaining the sample closely for accurate results.
