i refuse to patronize a business with the two prices (cash and credit). also...psychologically speaking, i can't buy hess gas because of the rumors that they diluted it more years ago...granted...i know this is virtually impossible to be true...but i don't like Hess lol
I actually get good mileage with the Hess. 44MPG combined on my Altima, and 33MPG combined on my M35. Both are in congested Rt1 highway traffic (lucky if we reach 40mph during rush hour). So I can't complain.

oh i know it's all in my head. like i said before...gas is gas.
Its a mess , the gas tax is so low that most our Infrastructure is starting to crumble. And the Governor is too afraid to raise , i'm just waiting for a few bridges to collapsed. Meanwhile were the only NE state without a solid Transportation fund....

Friends, I can't quickly lay my hands on a source, but my recollection is that the largest part of state gas tax revenue does not go to pay for road construction and maintenance. Isn't the majority of the gas tax funneled into mass transit projects, with little (if any) left over for roadwork?
Can anyone help me confirm or deny this? I think rscalzo is correct... wasn't the fund raided in the 90s to pay for mass-transit de jour?
I am no fan of increased taxes, but I'd find them much more palatable if guarantees were made that the revenue would not be used for some politicos pet project. If an extra ten cents per gallon would assure exclusive use of gas tax monies for repairing the road network, I'd willingly vote for it. Problem is, once they've got my money I don't trust the lying basdarts to do as they say they will.

As someone else mentioned, you can't just pick out one tax and compare it to other states. You have to look at the big picture. Perhas another tax is less because their gas tax is more. And you can't assume what an increase in gas tax will be used for. It could be increased and have zero impact on the quality of our roads.

If that were the case , then Transit fares and services would be better. The Truth is its more like 50/50 , with the exception of the bulk of funding going into corrupt officials. The Transportation fund is constantly raided for other projects other then Transportation. BTW Transportation , includes Mass Transit , along with Roads and Ferrys.

the gas tax is supposed to go towards the maintenance.
it goes into the transportation fund. i don't think it's designed to 100% go towards roads...i think it also supports mass transit.
