I currently work in Morristown, and am looking for a house somewhere along Route 78, west of 287. My fiance just got a job around exit 15 on route 78. How is the commute along route 78 E and then up 287 N during the morning, and the reverse in the afternoon. I can come into work anywhere from 730-9 and can leave anywhere from 330-5.

On the far end, how long would it reasonably take to get from exit 15 on route 78 to morristown? Is there tons of traffic at the 78/287 intersection?

Or is there any other way I could take? Thanks.

traffic is rarely an issue there, closer to morristown is where you'll see some congestion

Your best bet would be to go 7:30-3:30 so you'd be missing most of the traffic. That area isn't horrible, but it's best to go earlier rather than later. 287 gets a little crowded a few miles North of 78 because it drops down from 4 lanes to 3, but then it opens up pretty well from there to Morristown. There are backroads as well that would keep you off 78 and 287 altogether, but I don't know them well enough to tell you what they are.

You'd be going from Exit 15 to Exit 29 and it CAN be a problem ,despite what another poster said. I've traveled exit 24 to 29 for over 15 years. It moves, but slowly. It can take 10 minutes for me to go 5 miles, so do the math, and by the time I get on it has eased a bit. 287N can be ugly as well - but it may ease up as you go north.

You can try getting off at Exit 24, turn right onto 523N, and then turn right onto Lamington Rd (which is still 523). Cross over 206, and the road will eventually turn into 202N which will take you into Morristown.

correction: Exit 24, make a LEFT onto 523N. I typed as if you were headed west on 78, not east.

78 east from exit 15 to 287n is very busy in the mornings. The good thing its only a 15 mile ride. Sun glare and heavy volumn back it up most mornings. You would have to be on 78 at exit 15 no later then 6 am and even then its real busy. 287 north into morristown moves pretty good but that can get backed up real quickly too. Getting on 78 west back home by 3:30 is usually no problem except on Fridays when its already moving slow by 3:30 pm.

Yuk- that'd be an extremely painful commute unless you plan to be in the office at 6am and stay there until after 6pm. You'd be taking 18, the Turnpike or Route 1 to 287, all of which are a mess in the morning, and then traveling 287 for around 35 miles. During rush hour, you're looking at a minimum of probably 1:15 on light traffic days (bank holidays, etc), 1:30 on normal days, and more like 2:30-3:00 going home on Fridays in the summer, or if there's rain or, god forbid, snow.

You could possibly sneak through the backroads of South Brunswick up thru Franklin Township or Hillsbourough, but that'll likely save a few miles but no time.

thank you for the info, I am flexible in leaving meaning can set appoints for 10, 11 am not standard 8 to 5 or anything. Do you think safer or can you suggest any areas which may be better, can't move to morristown- way too much and looking to still remain close to princeton. thanks!

You can look in the Bridgewater, Bedminster, Basking Ridge area, depending on your price range. Your ride to Princeton would be longer, but Morristown would be much closer (30 minutes or less).
