I often wonder!!!! I can't tell you how many times my bill has looked odd, so I called PSE&G to inquire. 9 times out of 10 (the 10th time it was actually a combined 2 month bill ~ meter hadn't been able to be read due to weather) but all the other times they have had me go to my meter, read the numbers to me, and proceed to adjust the bill ~ just like that! Super shady!

The name is simply New Jersey Gas and Electric. Or just NJG&E, Im worried to see if they are actually just a scam. I heard they're partnered with PSEG but Im not sure.

I'm really having a hard time trying to figure this one out.

If I were you, I'd take my bill and try to figure out what the kilowatt/hr and therm costs are. From there, you can go online and check out prices relative to what you are paying. I was happy after I moved to NC and found my cost per kilowatt is about 2/3rds of what PSE&G charged me. Gas prices tend to be more variable and seasonal in nature. I thought my gas bill was high here in NC, but my sister astutely reminded me I was heating a house that was 3 times the volume of my old NJ house! My per-therm price here was lower than PSE&G. As an aside, Gas fireplaces aren't cheap to operate even if you just leave the pilot running!

NJG&E is an energy supplier you can choose to replace your current provider under NJ's deregulation of the industry.

Our charge per Kwh last month was .1360 that magically got raised to .3101 per Kwh thus almost 2.5 times the bill to over $1000. We called to complain about this obvious oversight in overcharging and the number on the bill to call about this 1-866-568-0290 is just a call center and not helpful at all, as they can do nothing with billing - they can forward the issue on to billing, to which it takes 5-7 business days to hear back from. We asked to speak directly to billing and apparently the billing people do not talk to the customer people and you are forced to wait for someone to call you back. If this company is not a scam I don't know what is. BTW a neighbor also has them and there Kwh charge was the same as last month and we were within 1 kwh usage of them and we got charge the rate I mentioned above. So they indiscriminately and randomly charge people what they think they can get away with. I know we can not afford to have electric bills fluctuate by 250% on a month to month basis. First we thought they read the meter wrong, but this was not case it was the charge per kwh as noted. Contacting them seems to be futile at this point and it may be useful to run the past two bills in the paper to show what they are doing.

Not unusual with these suppliers. Many take the cheaper rate that fluctuates monthly. when the company pays more for the electric, so does the consumer.

Next time sign up for a higher but stable two year contract.
