Hi, I'm looking to take my 4 year old daughter to the beach for the day (week day). We're coming from the Princeton area, and I'd like to take her to a nice quiet beach where we can collect sea shells and grab some lunch. It doesn't have to have a boardwalk.
Any suggestions?

What exactly do you mean by a "quiet" beach? It's summer in NJ, so most of the beaches are not going to exactly be deserted.

If you just mean "not full of rowdy teenagers" or something, you have more choices. There is always Sandy Hook, and there is Seven Presidents Beach in Long Branch, both of which are more natural areas without as much commercial stuff right on the beach. They are kid-friendly places.

Most beaches are "raked" and thus don't have shells to collect. If that is important to you, I would second the Sandy Hook or Seven Presidents suggestions. If you choose Sandy Hook the farther north you go the less people there are, so I would go to North Beach. Seven Presidents has a nice playground.
