We are in process of looking for a house in Bridgewater and or Hillsborough. I like bridgewater perhpas tad better, but for same or lower price i get a much bigger house/lot in Hillsborough.

Questions i have:

1) Are the schools in bridgewater considered better than hillsborough? I looked at greatschools.org - and hillsborough seems to be ranked around 8 to 9 where as bridgewater is around 9. My impression would be they are very similar. Just wanted some opinions.

2) I keep hearing about this bypass/extension in Hillsborough to avoid 202/206. Can someone tell me when these are projected to be built. Tried to look up on internet - could not get a good info as to where these projects are.

3) I work in roseland, NJ. Google map tells me it will be 45 mins drive. A coworker also told me around 45-55 mins to do the 40 mile drive - just wondering if that is reasonable assumption or not.

4) I understand Bridgewater is more dense vs. Hillsborough which is bit rurual. Any other attributes to look into before deciding Hillsborough vs Bridgewater.

Re # 3, are you assuming Bridgewater or Hillsborough as the start point. 287 North can be a bear in the morning.

OP asked B'Water or Hillsborough not the town where you live.

Hillsborough traffic on 206 is terrible.
Waiting for the bypass to be built is like waiting for RE prices to go up. Long wait.

I grew up in Hillsborough and had a lot of friends in Bridgewater. If I had to choose between the 2 I would choose Hillsborough...but it is definitlely not rural any longer. Hillsborough is just as built up as the next place and there is very little land left to develop.

Yes
While construction has begun, this is a very big project, and I would not be surprised if it took 4 or 5 years to complete.

Okay got it - thanks. Would that add to property value, once completed. My plan is to stay perhaps 6-8 years.

there is NO way that it takes 50 minutes to get to Roseland from H'borough during rush hour. 40 miles, 50 minutes? what's that? nearly 50 mph the entire way? you can't do 50 on 206 on a Sunday Morning! LOL

That sounds MINIMUM 75 minutes. 206/287 North? UGH.

I honestly wouldn't live in either with a job there, but if those are your only choices, I'd choose Bridgewater for the (shorter - but not by much) commute.

With the market the way it is today I do not know if I would even buy if I were only staying in a place for 6-8 years. Prices are dropping and in that time there would be a whole lot of equity built up. Where are you planning on going in 6-8 years because you might be better off renting.

Hillsborough as start point. I do have flexibility right now - so i can work early in morning form home, and basally head out 9:00 - 9:30 & avoid traffic. Or once or twice a week, can work from our Warren NJ office. That kind of factors into it for now.
