In terms of safety, how is the area around Newark train station late at night on a weeknight? I'll need to walk alone from the train station to a parking lot 2 blocks away on Edison Place. It will probably be around 11pm and I'm pretty sure there are not any events going on at the Prudential Center the night next week that I'll be in Newark. Will the streets be deserted? Is there any reason for concern? I have been around there during the day many times and it doesn't seem bad, but not sure what it's like at night.

Its fine....the only issues that bother me at night are the bad drivers...and once in a while the homeless...

That area of Newark is safe. Just don't wander too far from the station down residential streets with numbers like 23rd & 10th. That's where you risk getting killed.

I often have to sit around at the Broad Street station waiting for my transfer at night, sometimes it's deserted but there's security around and a police presense in that area. It's also well lit and no homeless bums around.

Fixed, and it's not within walking distance anyway.

OP why would you park in that lot? Why not park behind Penn Station on the Ironbound side or in the garage on Raymond Plaza West under the Hilton?
