Okay, folks. My sister (in Bergen County) told me a vicious rumor that she's seen some leaves already changing by her!
Confirm? Deny?
I bumped up my vaca by one week as I don't really want to miss the fall spectacle. If I did miss it, I wouldn't die or anything--the major thing, of course, is seeing my family. But I would like to hit Peak Week for leaves or thereabouts if at all possible. So now I'm probably going out Oct. 12th for a week (instead of the next week), along with my toddler. We will be staying in Bergen County.
Also, anybody got an apple picking schedule for the general area? I suppose I could Google this, but I thought it would be more fun to ask people, and get everybody in the fall spirit. I'm hoping some varieties will be out the week I go. We plan to apple-pick...go up to Bear Mountain and check out Oktoberfest...and just take long walks through the rustling leaves. If there are any left!
The leaves by me are still green. I have my mums planted in the front yard. I picked the ones with buds not bloomed so by Halloween they will still be bursting with ORANGE. My neighbor went apple picking yesterday.
I checked with the local farmer for bales of hay & cornstalks. She said Give Me one more week !
BTW: It was sticky hot today & yesterday- like 85+
i've seen one or two, but i definitely would not say the season has begun. i think it's because of lack of rain more than anything, and the cool temps we had a few weeks ago.
Thank you! I bought my ticket. So the countdown begins. One more month!
