You can't go wrong in Ridgewood, Chatham or Westfield. I think Westfield has more well known name upscale shopping. It really depends on what areas you like best. Ridgewood is in Bergen County and closer to the city. I don't know much about Chatham, but from what I have seen and heard it is very quaint and friendly. Good luck with your search. Millburn may be another option for you with excellent schools and a great downtown.
anyone who thinks Westfield is snobby clearly doesn't live in Westfield - one of the greatest things about this town is that there are all types of people - almost everyone utilizes the public schools and the kids of postal carriers and investment bankers get to interact, be on the same teams and be friends - it is a town where family comes first and people tend to have a grounded set of values.
