tree stumps are a pain to get out yourself, but I'm sure it can be done. If you could afford to do it, have a few landscapers quote the work for you. Then maintain it yourself going forward.

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you have the desire to learn to do these things? Are you generally good with your hands? Do you have money to invest in the right equipment? (doesn't have to be pro grade but cutting a branch with a handsaw is torture) If so then hey go for it, you'll save yourself tons of money over the years.

Do you hate working outside? Have allergies? No desire to learn about these things? Are you a total klutz? Do you have the money to pay someone? Then farm it out, you'll save yourself tons of time over the years.

I really think thats what it boils down to, landscapers are great but they are not some elite breed of superhumans you can do what they do if you WANT to and are willing to invest the time and money.

Controlled Demolition, Inc.--that firm that takes down buildings by strategically cutting supports and then planting dynamite so that the structure implodes upon itself--was started by a man who removed tree stumps by blowing them up. His sons now own a multimillion dollar company.

It's just a thought. Be careful, though!

Try Richard tree service, Teaneck ---201-328-7044. It is a 1 man shop and the rates he quoted were very reasonable. I have used him to get rid of few pine trees and stumps. Good Luck!!
