I started working in Exchange Place in Jersey City a few months ago and I'm looking into moving to the Jersey City/Hoboken area next summer. The only factor is I will need a car roughly 1-2 days a week for work to drive to sites all around pretty much the whole northeast region. I was looking at parking options and stumbled upon Corner Cars, which looks like it would work great for me. Does anyone use it? Is it efficient? Will there always be a car available?
Nope, corner cars is a similar service run by Hertz where the cars are parked on the street and you pick them up from there. Zip cars are usually in garages. Hoboken has both. Probably better to look at a hoboken specific site (but ignore hoboken411.com since the corner cars is a program that the current mayor supports and for political reasons hoboken411 bashes anything good the current mayor did)
i've heard good things about corner cars. i don't know about availability, but if you know ahead of time you need one (which for work, it's probably a couple days notice, right), you should be fine from what i've heard.
they have a facebook page specifically for the hoboken program, so you could follow them and ask questions. it's a bit better than zipcar in that the cars are more disbersed through the city. but zipcar has cars in the garages.

Zipcars are not usually in garages. A lot are parked on the street, though perhaps in Hoboken they happen to be in garages. I live in downtown Jersey City and have never heard of Corner Cars, but perhaps they have some presence in Hoboken. Zipcar is definitely the right choice in Jersey City, however.

Thanks!
I'm not all that familiar with Corner Cars, but it seems most of the car sharing services (Zipcar, Hertz on Demand, etc.) have the same strict mileage limit (180 miles per day). If you're planning to use a Corner Car to travel all over the Northeastern US, you'll get socked with ridiculous overage fees. For long trips I think renting from a car rental agency is still the best option.
Edit: The Corner Cars FAQ says insurance is provided by Hertz, so you can bet the requirements are the same as the general Hertz on Demand service, 180 mile limit

That would work great since our company policy allows us to rent a car if the round trip is over 200 miles.
2) And from the zip car FAQ (so maybe there are some on the streets in JC, but if you look at the zip car site, most are in lots and decks, so always double check "experts" on the internet)
Where are the cars located?
Cars are located all over your city in reserved and (usually) off-street parking spaces. This means that you will always know where to find the car and always have a parking spot to come back to — yet another benefit of Zipcar
