Hey I ws just wondering if anyone has similar issues that I do at this intersection and what the cause is? I have to drive down Park Ave everymorning and the light that would allow you to turn onto Bloomfield Ave is all sorts of screwed up. There is another road that is in the middle of this too. Hillside Ave I beleive. When coming down park towards bloomfield the lights skips the traffic on Park often times during it's rotation. So Bloomfield one way will go, then the other way, then Hillside, then back to Bloomfield both ways and Hillside, and if you're lucky then it will turn green for Park. This morning it took me over 10 minutes to turn off Park onto Bloomfield and that was for the light to turn green once for us. And it's not like it's not heavily traveled. There were 10+ cars waiting to turn this morning and there are a handful of apartments right there as well as the HS is around the corner. Is this a faulty light?

Sounds odd. Sometimes signal timings are impacted by the close proximity to other signalized intersections. It may seem nonsensical, but if the "flow" of traffic on Bloomfield Ave would be impacted by giving each turning movement its own phase every cycle, they may mix up the phasing to improve performance of the overall system during peak hours. Not sure if that's the case here or not.

Anyway, talk to your councilperson and the town engineer. Maybe the signal needs adjustment. Bloomfield Ave is a county highway, so perhaps the Essex County engineering department would make the change. Your town should be a good starting point, though, and they should be capable of bringing it to the county's attention if necessary. If you can take a short video clip that illustrates the problem, that might help too.
