Hi!We are planning to move to New York area.
We have 2 daughters aged 2 and 4 years old,and we are looking for master planned communities, with shops(malls)and good choice of schools nearby.
I have seen many on internet in New Jersey, but don't have any idea of commuting times to JFK airport(my husband is a pilot).I think we can consider a commuting time of 1 hour....any suggestion?
I have never been there,so I need a bit of orientation...
Our budget is between $350.000 and $450.000.
Getting to JFK is pretty hellish. From Central Jersey you have to cross Staten Island and then travel the Belt Parkway to Van Wyck. Even if he can avoid rush hour the traffic can be brutal. 1 hour would be a stretch. During rush hour the journey can take at least 2 hours.
You might want to consider Staten Island or somewhere on Long Island, although LI is ridiculously expensive right now.

Thank you!!
Like Anthony said if your traveling from Central Jersey over the Outerbridge the trip can be a nitemare. If you don't get across Staten Island by aprox. 6 A.M.you can be dead in the water. While the eastbound trip on the Belt (going towards JFK) is pretty much going against traffic, add in one accident, misdirected truck driver or heavy rain and he may be missing his flight. I've been in traffic so bad on the Belt that I couldn't even get to an exit to take local roads. Note to your husband "DO NOT DRIVE IN LEFT LANE OF BELT PARKWAY DURING RAIN and LISTEN TO 1010 NEWS (am radio)FOR TRAFFIC CONDITIONS" Obviously most of his issues will be directly tied to the time of day he is traveling. It really dosen't matter if your in North Jersey and going over the GWB east in the morning or through the Holland or Lincoln Tunnels or over the Staten Island Bridges. It's pretty much all the same. All this info. is the same for the commute home. Once again it usually depends on what time of day your commuting. By the way I live in Freehold Township. My best time to to or from JFK is probably about an hour. The worst probably close to three. Good luck to you and your family!
