The reason I moved from Morristown to Jersey City was largely due to NJ Transit. I was paying $369 per month for unreliable service especially in the winter. I sold my place and moved to downtown JC and never regretted that decision.

Seems like a state which is dabbed smack between two major cities should have a better and more reliable suburban transportation network, no?

One time I was in Chicago commuting out of Evanston. I thought they had a better system than NJ Transit (forgot what the commuter line is called.)

I think the Amish have a better commuting system than NJ Transit.

It could be better, but compared to Los Angles and the rest of southern, CA, the NJ transit system is quite spectacular. It is a matter of perspective. NJ Transit reliability is terrible compared in the context of the PATH and ferry for downtown JC to Manhattan commute. It's relative.

It all comes down to the inadequacy of having only one tunnel. NJTransit's operational competency could be better but is only a minor factor.

I am relatively new to commuting to Manhattan, but I still cannot get over the fact that there is one tunnel into the city and one tunnel out of the city as far as NJ Transit and Amtrak go.

a downed power line for the earlier train.

i wonder what caused this train to lose power though.

people love glorifying the times trains don't work, ignoring that 99% of the time the trains arrive at penn station without an issue. i think the quantity of people travelling per day on New Jersey Transit proves that it's a pretty decent system. Though I'd love to see it updated and improved.

well, until recently, there wasn't a compelling reason to build more, especially given the cost. but it would have been nice if in the past decade they did. now, we're stuck at capacity, and the ARC tunnel was cancelled based on faulty overrun predictions.
