Rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is about $1,000 - $1,500. Plainfield is not a safe city, so you may want to look into one of the surrounding towns. There are many towns within an easy commute to Plainfield. It really depends on what you're looking for and how long you want your commute to be. Your salary will not limit your options.

75K after taxes will leave you with about $3500 per month take home pay. Previous poster was spot on about rental prices for 1BR. The closer to NYC you get the higher the rental prices will get. I think you will be fine. If at all possible leave get rid of your car before you come. Car insurance, tolls, parking, etc will eat up a lot of your check.

Try not to spend all of your paycheck at Texas Arizona.

Thanks all for your revert. I can spend around 30-45 min, every day to commute on each side travel. Which are nearby areas are cheaper & safer (safety is first priority) than Plainfield for a rented home? Any option available for shared apartments & whats cost for it?

There are shared apartments, but personally, I would avoid having a roommate if I could afford it, even if it would save a few bucks. It's easier to find a 1 bedroom in an apartment complex than in part of a house.

Since there are dozens of towns within 30-45 min, it might be easier to suggest an area if you answer the Questions For Future and Potential Residents. In general though, it's cheaper and safer to the south and west of Plainfield.

Check craigslist adds (central & north jersey). Plenty of people take the roomate approach.

I had a couple of roomates the first year I moved here. One was cool...the other was a nutcase.

Just make sure you have one months rent and one months deposit because that is what most will ask for.

I agree with other readers. Rent will run you $900-$1500 a month. You can definitely live on $75,000 with some luxuries, but you can't go crazy.
