don't bring a car- auto theft is common, if you absolutely need to bring a car for whatever reason, always make sure you lock the windows and doors even if your just running inside to get something, don't leave a gps or anything valuable at all on the seats
from what I've heard Ironbound isn't as bad as other areas there-still, be very careful, never walk at night, and if possible when walking anywhere walk together, for women I'd recommend not carrying a giant purse around, and don't carry money or your phone in your back pocket

So do you have any Newark Knowledge or are you just going be the stereotypes? The Ironbound is not any worse then Hoboken at night , you just have to use common sense. Pickpocketing is a very common issue anywhere these days. Auto Theft varies , but isn't a issue in every neighborhood... Neither is violent crime an issue...in certain neighborhoods.

Yes the words safety and Newark do not correlate at all. I do enjoy the Ironbound section which has a variety of restaurants and I can always catch a nice soccer game there as well.

I would never live anywhere in that town.Half of the city still resembles war torn Berut, the crime rate still skyrockets in the summer from murder, car jackers, muggings, drug dealing and theft.Their is no stereo type, Newark made its reputation a reality and has done little to change that. The iron bound and downtown I guess are the safest...?, but in still have higher crime stats than any normal town.So why would you wana stroll around their at night and not somewhere better?Beyond the fact, the rent anywhere their is outrageous for being a total hellhole, and the school systems completly fail, which is why Newarks economy is supported mainly by criminals.Yea wouldnt suggest that whole Newark move thing unless you like living in the bowels of hell!
