Hello my name is Denis i am from Israel.
I and my wife think about to move to USA to NJ
We are 25 year old i am a Network Admin.
We read alot of info about live in USA and NJ and we want to know how much money we need for first time.
To rent apartment and buy some old car and all the other things food tax and ....
To rent an apartment you usually need to pay the first month's rent plus security deposit (usually equal to one month's rent) up front. How much that will cost depends on where in NJ you are looking and for what size/quality apartment. Cost varies widely throughout the state. An old car will cost you anywhere from a few hundred dollars to over 10,000. I'd spend at least a couple of thousand if you can.
rent
electricity / gas
phones
buying furniture / household items for the apartment
buying a car
car insurance
gas for the car and/or commuting costs by train to/from work
health insurance (your employer may or may not offer it, if they do than they will deduct it from your pay.)
groceries
Some landlords require that you buy renter's insurance.
You may want cable TV.
Here are the big ticket items:
Rent $1500, plus 2 mo security $3000; Total $4500
Car $10,000
Furniture, Kitchen stuff $5000
I would imagine, $20K is essential, $25K will be better. That said, I immigrated to US 16 yrs back with $5000 in my pocket and a decent job. I think I used up about $2000 out of the $5000 to get started. Rented a $750/mo 400 sq ft apartment in Westchester County, NY. Credit was relatively easy in those days, I bought a new car within a month of arriving.
Actually, the security deposit is 1.5 month's rent, not two. That being said, as PP said, $1500 is not unreasonable to expect to pay for rent, if you're OK with a one bedroom. However, that rent would probably not include all utilities. Depending on where you want to live and what type of home you want to live in, your overall monthly payment could be anywhere from, say $1200 to over $3000.
$10000 for a pre-owned vehicle is not unreasonable, and you can easily get something that is less than ten years old and reliable. However, you need to factor in car insurance as well. It could be anywhere from $75-$200+ a month, depending on your credit score and how much coverage you want; it also depends on the company you go with.
There is a 7% sales tax on anything you buy, except for food and clothes (some towns offer 3.5% sales tax). If you are paying for a rental, you will most likely not have to pay for the property tax -- I have yet to come across a residential rental where you must pay property tax as well.
I hope this helps! More information on what you are looking for and how far you want to be from work (and where the job will be) would allow us to give you some better estimates.
